So, what are some of the common issues that you may come across when programming the console? And just how do you fix them??
Well, in this guide, we cover just that!
Fixtures aren’t responding?
So, you’ve plugged the fixtures in, plugged them into the corresponding dimmer board location. You’ve gone to slide up the fader and… nothing. Very underwhelming.
Firstly, check the following:
- Have you plugged the DMX into the console? This is normally the prime culprit. Admit it, we’ve all been there (including yours truly). If this is the case, plug it in and huzzah, we have light! If not, swear like crazy and follow the next step.
- See if the fixtures support RDM (Remote Device Management). If they DO NOT support RDM, you’ll need to patch them manually. This will be covered in How to… Patch Lights Manually.
- If we have upgraded our console, make sure that the DMX cable is plugged into the right output. Even I’ve tried to put the cable in the wrong output before 🤦🏼♀️.
- See if the fixtures need the lamp to be lamped on. If this is needed, you will see a Macros tab on the top of the screen when you select the fixture. When you click on the macros, it will display a Lamp On command.
External Touch Screen not responding?
Okay, so you’ve fixed the issue with the fixtures and have gone to use the touch screen, but what - it’s not working?!? Oh great heavens what do we do?!?
Well we could do a couple of things:
- Have you tried turning it off and on again? - This may seem basic, but 9/10 times this does work (coming from an IT professional).
- If it’s an FLX S48 (The 48 fader console) - make sure that the USB and DVI-D cables are plugged in. These are needed to be connected.
- Sometimes the screen requires calibration in order to work. In order to do this head to Setup → System Settings → Calibrate.
Remote App not connecting?
At last, the touch screen is working, but what’s this? The remote app isn’t working?! (When will these issues end?!) Have no fear, the troubleshooting guide is here!
We can check numerous things to see why the Remote App isn’t working:
- Firstly, did we actually set it up? Sometimes we forget, but we can check if Remote is enabled by heading to Setup → Remote and enabling it if it has been disabled.
- Orr - is there a password setup? We can also check this in Setup → Remote.
